Parsley seeds and roots are said to have a have much stronger diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and toxin flushing actions than do the leaves. Parsley Leaf tea is refreshing and quite enjoyable. I have found it to be sufficiently strong to accomplish all of the things listed for Parsley Root.
Fresh Parsley tea was a mainstay for one woman (very close to me) who had a rare and nasty cancer of the blood. Doctors were continually amazed at the healthy functioning of her kidneys. She lived many years beyond their original predictions—with an impressively good quality of life for most of those years. I personally attribute much of this to the strength of the kidneys from the consumption of so much Parsley tea.
Parsley is more than just a kidney/bladder herb. It is specific to the adrenal glands and helpful in formulas for the removal of both gallstones and kidney stones. Parsley has properties that powerfully benefit the optic nerves, the nerves in the brain, and the entire sympathetic nervous system. Parsley Root may be used effectively for gout and arthritis.
The volatile oil, some of which is preserved if the herb is properly handled in the drying process, relieves cramps and gas pains and is a strong uterine stimulant. While Parsley is an excellent herb, it should be avoided by nursing mothers as it efficiently dries up the milk supply.
Parsley is rich in vitamins and minerals, and contains a lot of easily assimilated iron. Parsley contains whopping amounts of vitamins A, B, C, and E. The B vitamins alone make it worthwhile to add to your food recipes and to use frequently as a medicinal herb. Parsley also contains iron and flavonoids that are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Perhaps, considering all the nutrients found in Parsley, we should be chomping that decorative little herb down with our salad instead of setting it aside.
