There are two methods for the preparation of Ginseng roots for use as a medicine. They are referred to as “red” and “white.” Both are made from Panax ginseng but the white variety is made from a sub-category of Panax ginseng, quinquefolius.
I do not know—and I have never found anyone who could explain it to me and have it make sense—why there are two different preparation methods, and why one type of Ginseng is prepared one way and the other type prepared the other way.
